Nokia developing S60 TD-SCDMA (Chinese 3G) handset for 2009
At the Mobia Asia Congress, in Macau, Nokia reaffirmed its commitment to TD-SCDMA (also known as Chinese 3G) and said it was working on an TD-SCDMA enabled S60 handset for release in 2009. This follows on from the news that Digia has integrated TD-SCDMA into S60. China is one of the key emerging markets for mobile and China Mobile is one of the world's biggest operators (by customer numbers).
Nokia Wins Green Award For Internal Campaign
Nokia have been awarded the Green Award 2008 Grand Prix with their 'Power of We' campaign. This was an internal campaign designed to encourage discussions around environmental issues affectingNokia . By promoting their environmental programme to the global workforce, the individuals in the company could start to make a positive change to the world.

Nokia updates Q4 and 2009 outlook
In a statement issued on Friday Nokia updated it outlook (view of the mobile market) for Q4 2008 and 2009. Nokia expects Q4 sales of all mobile phones to be lower than initially expected at around 330 million. It expects its own market share to be the same or slightly up. For 2009 Nokia is expecting volumes to be down compared to 2008 (i.e. less mobile phones will be sold in 2009 than in 2008). Both these changes are attributed to 'continuing overal economic slow down'.
Forum Nokia goes Budapest and Barcelona
On Tuesday and Wednesday this week (19th-20th) Forum Nokia goes to Budapest for two events: a Developer Day and Code Camps on S60 5th Edition Touch UI and Web Runtime widgets. At the beginning of December it is the turn of Barcelona which has S60 5th Edition Touch UI and Mobile Web Code Camps. Both events are free to attend; all you need do is register on the Forum Nokia web site. I'll be in Budapest for both days of the Forum Nokia event, please do look out for me, introduce yourself, chat about the Symbian ecosystem and show me any applications or services you may be working on.

Ewan gets all financial and peers into his strategic crystal ball, reckoning that the Symbian OS ecosystem will weather the current financial crisis, even it parts of it will get a little 'battered'... Symbian tech supremo David Wood gave the opening address at the Mobile 2.0 event in San Francisco last week, in which he pondered the role of smartphones in 2013, looked at the complexities of modern phone OS and (not unnaturally) referred to Symbian's role in how the future will pan out. It's a lengthy but good read and it's now online in full on David's blog.
